Semarang State University is the fourth most favorite campus in Indonesia, according to LSI survey. It is located the capital city of central java Indonesia. It has eight faculties, they are faculty of education, faculty of languages and arts, the faculty of social science, the faculty of economic, the faculty of mathematics and natural science, the faculty of engineering, the faculty of law, and the faculty of sports science. The student body is approximately 40.000 students enrolled in those 8 faculties. There are also many popular majors in those faculties, such as English education, mathematics education, accounting, law, Javanese education, etc. The students come from around 33 Indonesian provinces spread in those majors. Even foreigners come from their country to Indonesia to study in Semarang State University. It is proved that Semarang State University is a favorite university. One thing makes this university become popular and also favorite because it is kind of conservation university where we can find many plants and beautiful parks. The environment around the campus is so relaxing, the plants grow beautifully. The air is so fresh without any machine around campus. It is forbidden to go to campus by vehicle that produce pollution. We have to ride our bicycle or take walks in order to avoid pollutions. Because of conservation wisdom Semarang State University become more comfortable campus than other campuses in Indonesia. In addition, there just few university in Indonesia use conservation as their wisdom, Semarang State University did it so that we can call it as a special university. This university special because this university keep the environment better than other university.

•      “Translation consists of reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalence of the source language message, first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style.”

Penerjemahan merupakan suatu proses menghasilkan kembali padanan pesan/informasi dari bahasa sumber secara alamiah / lebih dekat ke dalam bahasa penerima dalam hal arti dan gaya bahasa penulisan.

2.                  Definition 2 (Catford, 1978: 20)

•      “Translation is the replacement of textual material in one language (SL) by equivalent textual material in another language (TL).”

Penerjemahan adalah penggantian penulisan teks dari bahasa sumber melalui padanan penulisan teks yang artinya sama dengan bahasa penerima.

3.                  Definition 3 (Larson, 1984: 3)

•      “Translation is transferring the meaning of the source language into the receptor language. This is done by going from the form of the first language to the form of a second language by way of semantic structure. It is meaning which is being transferred and must be held constant.”

Penerjemahan adalah pentransferan/pemindahan arti dari sebuah bahasa sumber ke bahasa penerima. Hal ini dilakukan dengan memperhatikan sistimatika bahasa sumber ke dalam sistimatika bahasa penerima berdasarkan semantik. Arti dari bahasa pertama ditransfer ke bahasa kedua dan harus dengan arti yang sama.

4.                  Definition 4 (Newmark, 1988: 5)

•      “Translation is rendering the meaning of a text into another language in the way that the author intended the text.”

Penerjemahan adalah menterjemahkan arti sebuah tulisan/teks dari sebuah bahasa ke bahasa lain dengan cara penulisan sang penulis.

5.                  Definition 5 (Hawkes in Basnett-McGuire ,1991:13)

•      “Translation involves the transfer of ‘meaning’ contained in one set of language signs into another set of language through competent use of the dictionary and grammar, the process involves a whole set of extra linguistic criteria also.”

Penerjemahan merupakan transfer arti dari suatu bahasa ke bahasa lain dengan menggunakan kamus dan sistematika penulisan tertentu, prosesnya juga melibatkan aspek ilmu bahasa / linguistik.

6.                  Definition 6 (Sperber and Wilson in Bell (1991:6))

•      “Translation is the replacement of a representation of a text in one language by a representation of an equivalent text in a second language.”

Penerjemahan adalah penggantian dari representasi sebuah tulisan / teks dari sebuah bahasa kedalam padanan pesan / informasi bahasa lain / bahasa kedua.

7.      Definition 7 (Toury in James, 2000)

•      “Translation is a kind of activity which inevitably involves at least two languages and two cultural traditions.”

Penerjemahan adalah sebuah kegiatan yang tidak terpisahkan dari keterlibatan dua bahasa dan dua tradisi kebudayaan.

8.      Definition 8 (Steiner in Choliludin, 2006: 5)

•      “Translation can be seen as (co) generation of texts under specific constraints that is relative stability of some situational factors and, therefore, register, and classically, change of language and (context of) culture.”

Penerjemahan dapat dilihat sebagai proses menghasilkan kembali sebuah teks dengan aturan-aturan tertentu yang relatif seimbang yang dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, tingkatan, dan secara umum, perubahan bahasa serta (dalam konteks) kebudayaan.
